Momma gets breakfast

Chicken & Waffles at Aunt Mary's ---9.27
This was one of the rare mornings where my errands took me out of the immediate neighborhood which in turn became a great excuse for treating myself to breakfast - and since I had a half off coupon for aunt Mary's ... well lets just say Chicken and Waffles here I come. It was a nice treat to sit outside on their deck and enjoy a few minutes of quiet over coffee & yummy food. Maybe I will get to bring Em here sometime.

Boston Pride 2010

Boston pride made its wet way through the streets today. We stayed & played with Dan & Farah until the deluge forced us off the streets and into the subway. But we did get to see Dykes on bikes led by Moving Violations, as well as Mayor Menino, Governor Deval Patrick & his daughter who is working tirelessly to drum up youth & queer support for his campaign. Lots of schools, parents, religious groups and even a wet band of Super Hero's.
Then we came home, dried off, made popcorn and watched TV for the rest of the day.

Friday - Dyke March Boston

We went to the Dyke March tonight. R was not in the greatest mood - he really does not enjoy crowded events full of grownups. I was surprised that there were not a few more kids there - less than a dozen probably and none that he wanted to run around with -- none of our friends. Luckily his teacher Jenn was there with her sweetie julie & she got some smiles out of him.
so Boston Dyke march is a march and not a "meander" like the SF version. We had a nice sunset hike through the Common, Back Bay, and eventually looping back into the common.
Estimates were that there were 2000 foks marching - not bad.

Afterwards we headed to Harvard Square for vietnemese food at our favorite neighborhood place Le's.

Riss wouldn't stand by the sign for me to take her picture for some reason... so you just have to imagine.

Charles River Gosslings

As part of our stay-cation we headed down to the river with Mommy to meet some of the newest residents of Cambridge - the baby gosslings. We found three different families with about a half dozen little ones each.... We brought them some bread crumbs and the boy was VERY good about not chasing the mommas and babies.

City Hall Lawn

We have been getting a rash of summer like weather -
Well summer in SF that is. Temps in the high 60's and low 70's I am loving it.
And the boy is loving all the time that we are getting to be outside and play.
His favorite game on the city hall lawns is the run down the hill at full speed and jump on momma knocking her down game.

H2 Chinese New Year

On sunday we went to Harvard Square to see the Cambridge Lunar New Year Celebrations - Em dropped me and the boy infront of Peets where we got up close and personal with the Lion Dancers and then drove around for 45 minutes looking for parking. Finally we had to pretty much give up and go to the library instead.

Saying Bye Bye

well it turns out that the gas smell in our apartment wasn't just in my (or Adam's or Alex's) imagination. Our lovely old stove had a tiny bit of a leak in one of the burners. Jeff couldn't find a replacement part so we had to say goodbye to this lovely relic and move into the 2010's with a new fancy new oven and stove.

Central Square Adventure Day

Sometimes for adventure day we just stick close to home. Here are a few shots from this weeks Adventure Day Central Square.

Here he is looking VERY smug as he takes the lead yet again in a rousing game of Chutes and Ladders at 1369 - our fave local coffee house

Blue skies over city hall..... and

jumping up and down at the city hall doors - playing with his shadow.

Library

After school we went for "coffee" and then walked over to the new library to meet Alex and Jack. The place is pretty great - the third floor is a dedicated kids area with a play space, lots of seats a few rooms for readings, computers, books and toys. They even have a couple of gerbils at the librarians desk. The older building (to the left) has a teen center. And out front there is even a small playground.

About to topple the snowper

Played with Dan, Farah & Dori at Whole Foods park for a couple of minutes today (after some CRAZY 24th of December shopping...) Uncle Dan worked with the kids to make this snow person (lady according to Farah, man according to the boy - hmmm) and not five minutes after the cousins left to go home & nap my boy was knocking the whole thing down. Like a block tower or train tracks - the point of building is the opportunity for destruction that it offers!!

Snow Play

Okay so our October photos of an almost non-existant snowfall may have been a bit premature. Now that we are on the verge of the ginormous christian holiday we have received an honest to goodness smackdown of snow. Luckily its a light & fluffy coating that was easy enough to shovel through and PERFECT for playing in...

So without further ado - I give you a boy, his dog & the first good snowfall of the season

hungry

Never again should a people starve in a world of plenty

I noticed this statue in Cambridge Common for the first time today after the boy & I were playing --- seems an appropriate sentiment for the season.

Demolition !

Jeff invited El Destructo upstairs to have a hand at the demolition thats been going on in their kitchen. The work he is doing is amazing by the way - the top floor is looking amazing with a laundry room & a new bathroom - rain shower head & claw foot tub included. The lower floor is in the midst of transformation.
